In 2017, Egypt implemented an eVisa system that allows citizens from 46 countries around the world to apply for a visa online before traveling. The purpose is to improve and streamline the visa granting system and make it easier for foreign travelers to visit this popular tourist destination.
Do Belgians Need a Visa for Egypt?
Similarly to nationals of most other countries, Belgians need a visa if they wish to travel to Egypt from Belgium for tourism purposes. Obtaining an Egypt visa for Belgian citizens is a very simple process. It does not require contacting or visiting the Egyptian embassy in Brussels. Instead, the visa application is done entirely online and it can be completed in a matter of minutes.
If the purpose of traveling is other than leisure and family visit such as seeking employment or working in Egypt for example, the traveler will need to obtain other types of visas like a work permit or a business visa.
Egypt tourist visa for Belgians is not required for transits with a duration between 6 and 48 hours. In this case, Belgian citizens are eligible for a transit visa. If the transit period is less than 6 hours, travelers are not allowed to leave the airport and do not need a visa. For stopovers longer than 48 hours, they must obtain a regular tourist visa.
Egypt Visa Requirements for Belgian Citizens
There are a number of Egypt visa requirements for Belgian citizens that need to be met before applying for an Egypt online visa. Belgian citizens who wish to travel to Egypt from Belgium must have a Belgian passport or machine-readable ID card is valid to apply for an Egypt e-visa. If applying with an ID card, two photos are also required with a validity of at least 6 months after entering the country.
Belgium Egypt visa requirements also include having a valid credit or debit card for paying the Egypt eVisa fee online. Lastly, an active email address is mandatory in order to receive the online visa validation.
If all the requirements are met and the application form is duly completed, the Egypt eVisa will be issued in 4-7 days. Applicants need to make sure that they have a printed copy of the visa in addition to the online confirmation. The visa must be presented along with the passport at an Egyptian land, sea or air port of entry.
Apply for Egypt eVisa From Belgium
Egypt visa application for Belgian citizens is simple and straightforward. Belgian nationals need to access the online application form through the Egypt Online Visa website and fill in the following personal details:
- Full name, exactly as it appears in the passport
- Country and date of birth
- Country of citizenship
- Phone number and email address
In addition, they need to provide several passport details:
- Country of the passport (that must match the country of applicant’s nationality)
- Passport date of issue
- Passport expiry date
In order to apply for a visa to Egypt from Belgium, the applicants are also required to inform the authorities about their travel plans, including the intended date of entry and the address in Egypt (hotel, family, or other accommodation).
Applicants also need to indicate whether they would like to enter the country only once or they would like to apply for a multiple-entry visa. The single Egypt eVisa from Belgium is valid for 3 months from the date of issue, for stays of up to 30 consecutive days. A multiple eVisa allows an unlimited number of entries to the country during a period of 180 days, where each stay does not exceed 30 days.
It is imperative to provide correct and full information in the application form. If this is not the case, the visa application may be canceled.
Once the form is completed, the applicant will be asked to pay the Egypt eVisa fee through the secure online payment system. This can be done using either a debit or a credit card.
The visa approval will be sent to the applicant by email, given that all the provided information is correct and all the requirements are met. It is recommended to apply for a visa at least 7 days prior to traveling, in case of any delays or if there is a need for supplementary information.
As an alternative to eVisa, the government of Egypt can also grant Belgian visitors a visa on arrival, which can be obtained at the traveler’s port of entry. Note, however, that this method of obtaining the visa can require long waiting times and the visa needs to be paid in cash as payment cards as not accepted.
